I ran across this picture a few days ago and haven't been able to get it out of my mind. I don't know who this young soldier is or where he calls home. I don’t know his background, where he went to high school, or who he voted for in the last election.
I do know he is hurting. Did he just witness one of the many horrifying sites we see detailed in pictures coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan? Maybe he is thinking about the family he left to serve our country? Maybe he is just remembering a fallen brother or sister in uniform?
What I do know is there are thousands of heroes just like this one making sacrifices daily. I’ll bet there are millions of tears just like this one being shed on a regular basis by those who wear our country’s uniform and place themselves between us and the evil who would do us harm.
Have you thought about a soldier today? Have you considered their sacrifices? Will you remember this soldier tomorrow?
